During The Real World Brooklyn, on one of the nights that JD Ordonez could blame alcohol consumption for his being annoying, he wandered into Ryan Conklin's bedroom and started yapping away at Ryan. Ryan was in bed already, working on editing his manuscript, but bending over backwards as usual to give JD some slack, he patiently listened to what JD had to say. JD told Ryan "off the record" that his friend Chad is the executive producer for the "7 o'clock news in New York City" and Chad would like to meet Ryan. The reason was because JD had told Chad that Ryan was interested in getting into "film production", so Chad offered Ryan the opportunity of seeing the not-at-all-equivalent production of a news show.
Ryan demurred, saying that news casting was not something he was interested in. JD, trying to make meeting Chad seem more enticing and to make some kind of connection, said, "I know, but he's the executive producer... and he writes all that sh*t... and he has writers...." Then to let Ryan know the arranged hook-up was a done deal, JD told him, "He's expecting a phone call from you."
Ryan realized at that time of the night it was easier just to go along and let JD have his way with him. Easily containing his "enthusiasm", Ryan facetiously exclaimed, "Great!" knowing that JD wouldn't pick up on the nuance.
JD continued to prattle, saying "He knows who you are and blah-blah-blah." Ryan cut him off and replied, "Alright, we'll talk tomorrow." JD, in continuous play mode, started the loop again, saying, "Chad wants to meet you..."
Fortunately, JD then went on to the next track, stating one of the compliments he had made about Ryan that could be said in mixed company: "I told him you're as cool as Hell."
Ryan is always appreciative of when people compliment him or do something nice for him, so with a smile he honestly let JD know, "Sweet. Thanks for that."
As JD made his way to the exit, his loop started again but this time it seemed like maybe the tape player had too much alcohol cleaner on it. "Chad... Chat... Chad... wants to meet you..."
By this time Chet Cannon was now in his bed and he asked JD why JD didn't ever hook him up. In the context of the conversation, Chet presumably was referring to a job opportunity, but it's hard to know with certainty. JD said that Chet already had stuff in the works with MTV, and besides, like all of JD's male friends, Chad wanted specifically to meet handsome Ryan.
Finally, JD was able to make it past the obstacle of the doorway curtain and he left the room. Long-suffering Ryan had remained patient, but he wasn't altogether pleased with the experience of sitting through another long session of jibber-jabber coming from JD. To express how he felt, he wrote on his notebook "He's so annoying when he drinks", and he showed it to Chet.
Ryan tried to get back to his work, but then from somewhere in the house JD started squealing the Star-Spangled Banner. Ryan knew it would be a good test of his steadfast forbearance and he gritted his teeth and went on with his editing. Across the way, JD screeched his wonderment of whether the flag could still be seen in the dawn's early light.
