Ryan Conklin once said in a interview that he and roommate Chet Cannon were just alike, except that Ryan had been in the army and Chet had not. It's quite a compliment for anyone to be compared favorably to Ryan, but based on what was shown on The Real World Brooklyn, it does seem to be rather an exaggeration in this case. For starters, Ryan doesn't seem like someone who would wear skinny jeans, wear a cap that said "Ryan", or have a life-size cutout made of himself. Additional discrepancies would fill a few pages. One unusual thing that they possibly seemed to have in common came to light one day when Ryan was playing pool with Scott Herman. Chet walked up to mention that he had worked up the nerve to call some 18 year old girl he had recently met. Scott countered that he was talking with a girl that was 25. Chet tried to converse about it like he knew what he was talking about, but as always, he made it sound like it was a foreign language to him: "She's 25? Ooh, that's hot, man! Older woman, she's a teacher, yeah, that's sexy already. How many fantasies will that fulfill when you nail her?"
Scott, being very charitable, politely chuckled at Chet's strange question. Ryan, on the other hand, knew the fantasies in question were probably Chet's and knowing what else Chet would like, said, "And Chet is in the curtains watching [Scott engaging in sexual activity]!"
Chet showed he had indeed probably planned out such a situation, showing how he would meow like a cat to cover the noises he would be making while spying on Scott. Again, Scott went along with the general gaiety and laughed a little about it.
It was at this point that Ryan made a startling admission that he had actually hidden himself at least once to watch his best friend at home have sex. Ryan said that when he was in the closet, he watched his friend and his friend's girlfriend "getting into it". He described it this way: "They started doing it from behind. He was actually doing it and he farted once, but they didn't miss a beat. They just kept going."
Ryan reiterated that this event happened while he was still in the closet, so he was just standing there, not excited, but just trying to keep from laughing at what was to him the humorous sight of two people getting busy. Eventually he could take no more, and as the couple picked up their pace, he shouted at them, scared them considerably, and then ran away.
Scott, presumably aghast at hearing Chet say he wanted to watch, and Ryan saying he actually had done so with someone, tried to make light of it by saying incredulously, "Not creepy at all."
Chet made sure the conversation got back safely into the realm of creepy by offering his opinion that, "It's your best friend, you should watch them."
Fortunately, from Ryan's telling of his story, it was clear that Ryan had done what he done only as a prank. An uncharacteristically intrusive prank, but a prank nevertheless. So what at first seemed like a similar interest with Chet turned out not to be. However, it was good for Ryan to learn that if he were ever to get intimate with someone and Chet was even in the same city, Ryan should definitely check the closet first.
