Sarah Causes Ryan Pain

Ryan ConklinOnce on The Real World Brooklyn Ryan Conklin had got a cut on his foot deep into the skin. Sarah Rice, as the house do-gooder, volunteered to put antiseptic on the cut and bandage it. She warned Ryan that the antiseptic contained alcohol and would sting a little. Ryan, as our brave little soldier, insisted it wouldn't hurt him. As Sarah tried to put the antiseptic on, Ryan dramatized a scream, startling her. With that he was able to cover his actual discomfort and pull a prank at the same time.

Immediately prior to Sarah's aid, Ryan was eating a corn dog and debating with Chet Cannon which of the two of them had come up with the name "Mother Goose" as a nickname for Sarah. Ryan pointed out that he had said it first, but Chet as usual claimed that he had originated it. Ryan played along, speaking with Chet in his soft boy pal voice that he only used with Chet.

The use of the name "Mother Goose" was intended to reflect that Sarah "goes around and tries to solve everybody's problems." The connection between solving problems and Mother Goose is rather tenuous so they probably both should have been denying that they thought it made sense. Also, Mother Goose was someone who people liked to hear tell stories. Ryan hated to hear Sarah.

Inexplicable comment from Ryan about things that sting: "The only thing that stings is peeing and stopping halfway. That stings. When you pee and you stop halfway and you gotta go but you can't go because the police are knocking on your door, that stings."
