Before Katelynn Cusanelli told Ryan Conklin and company on The Real World Brooklyn that she was transgendered, Ryan and the boys would talk about the various clues that indicated to them that she was born physically male. On one occasion during a ride in the car, Ryan told Chet Cannon, JD Ordonez, and some nameless people, about something he had heard Katelynn discuss in the Confessional. Ryan believed that Katelynn's comments proved again what he had figured out from the first day in the house.Ryan related that he had been flipping laundry the night before and had heard Katelynn talking. He could tell that she was talking about her booty shorts, which Ryan said he got "hard on her for" because they are "nasty". Ryan heard her say, "I'm only sporting my body because I've only had this body for a few months, unlike these people who are born with great bodies. I've only modified my body to have it look this way for so short..." And with those words Ryan felt happily justified that he had "nailed it" on his original assessment.
Unfortunately for Ryan fans, Ryan would have been one of those people that Katelynn categorized as having a great body so he didn't feel the need to walk around sporting booty shorts. Actually that's a good thing, as no one should be in booty shorts. But for Ryan, frequently lounging around in a pair of discrete boxer briefs would have been nice.
Before Ryan told his story about Katelynn, he made a comment about Baya Voce. Ryan and Baya have a relationship like Ross Geller and Rachel Green, where they have their ups and downs but where Baya is Ryan's lobster. At this particular moment Ryan was a little harsh when describing Baya: "You need to watch out for Baya. She has no clue who the f she is. She doesn't know who she is." Ryan comments apparently reflecting a belief that Baya did not show a strong enough or independent enough personality to suit him. He went on to say that Baya was taking after Sarah because Baya believed that Sarah is a nice person. Ryan didn't like someone conforming to someone else. He prefers for people to be their own person. Unless, of course, that involves wearing booty shorts.
