Obstinate Ryan Conklin

Ryan ConklinRyan Conklin freely admits that he holds grudges. Like, forever. When he gets into an argument with someone, the only thing that can end the resulting grudge is when the other person apologizes and admits fault. It has to be that way, because Ryan says that he never gives in. He doesn't like being or admitting to being wrong.

The situation happens to him on a regular basis because he doesn't turn down a fight when the opportunity arises. Ryan says he is very competitive and doesn't like to lose.

No one is exempt from Ryan's potential ill will. Ryan has said that even if you are the greatest person in the world and/or his best friend, if you do something he doesn't like, he will shun you until you "come around". He says he will never be the one to come around.

The good thing about Ryan's admitting this part of his nature is that he realizes that it is not a great way to be. About this Ryan said, "It's [being] stubborn. It sucks. I'm trying to stop. I think I'm just too, I don't know, too proud."

During The Real World Brooklyn, Ryan spoke to Baya Voce about this aspect of his personality. Baya told Ryan that she is exactly the same way. She said, "Anytime that I'm in a relationship, I need, I need to know that the other, that the person I'm in a relationship [with] is going to be the person to always apologize first, to always tell me that they're wrong." She went on to say, "I will put my back towards them when we're going to bed until they're like, you know what I mean, I will like go to bed mad, I will wake up mad."

With both Baya and Ryan being this way, it doesn't seem like they could ever have a long-term relationship. One fight and each one would never speak to the other one again, both unwilling to cave in. On the other hand, they had several definite fights with each other during the show and they always became friends again, so maybe they are both exaggerating their obstinacy. Case in point, after Ryan did the "I have a girlfriend" line in episode three, he told Baya that the situation was his all his fault.

Interestingly they both claim to hate fights, especially over things that seem irrelevant. A good gift for them would be the paired t-shirts: "Don't sweat the small stuff" and "It's all small stuff".
