The Ad-Libbing Ryan Conklin

Ryan ConklinOn Saturday the day after the Braking the Cycle event had started in Gettysburg, Ryan Conklin and the rest of the Real World Brooklyn cast returned to New York. During the drive, JD Ordonez called a friend of his who was also named Ryan. JD wanted to talk about a dinner he was having that night and about a speech he would be giving the next day. The speech would be at the LGBT Center in New York to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and to mark the end point at the Center of the cycling event.

Hearing his name "Ryan" was enough to inspire Ryan A. Conklin to initiate a humorous ad-lib routine responding to what JD was saying on the phone. The next Abott and Costello --> Ordonez and Conklin:

Ryan C: (singing)
JD: (speaking into the telephone) Hey Ryan, it's JD.
Ryan C: (responding as if JD were speaking to him) What, yeah, I'm sure it is. What's up.
JD: (to the Ryan on the phone) Hey, we're... remember we're doing that oasis thing? The, the, race Braking The Cycle?
Ryan C: (matter of factly) Yeah, we just went. We're leaving there. We're going to somewhere.
JD: (oblivious to Ryan C's comments) Remember I told you I had to do that Braking the Cycle this weekend?
Ryan C: (attempting to assure JD he remembered clearly) Yeah, yeah, it started yesterday, I remember it.
JD: Remember...?
Ryan C: (acting frustrated) Gee! Yes, I do!
JD: (still not paying any attention) Remember I told you I'm giving that speech tomorrow?
Ryan C: (trying to offer proof that he had not forgotten) Yes! Tomorrow in New York!
JD: Yeah I am. Well, we're in Pennsylvania right now.
Ryan C: (taken aback at being told that) I know, I live here.
JD: We were like cheering on the bikers and stuff...?
Ryan C: (making his case on why he would not have forgotten these things) I was with you...
JD: in Gettysburg yesterday...?
Ryan C: (incredulous of being reminded) I know, I took you.
JD: So are you coming to my dinner tonight?
Ryan C: (with certainty) Yeah...
JD: Dinner and drinks.
Ryan: (more cautiously) if you invite me, yeah.

Of course, it's all in the delivery, which Ryan can do so well on the fly.

The big mystery in this comedy of errors is who is the Ryan on the phone, and why did JD think his friend was so demented that he would not be able to remember a single detail of JD's plans for the weekend without being repetitively prompted to do so. Perhaps JD had become used to friends not paying attention to what he says, and so he knew he would have to repeat it in the form of a memory prompt.
