When JD Ordonez decided to go to dinner with Katelynn Cusanelli and not invite anyone else from the Real World Brooklyn house, Ryan Conklin was upset that he had been left out. By that time he had figured out that JD is gay and that Katelynn is transgendered, and putting two and two together he realized that they were going to dinner specifically to talk about LGBT issues away from everyone else. Ryan didn't like that they were both keeping secrets (despite that Ryan had kept his own secret about being a veteran) and were not being open with everyone else about it. He confronted JD. The first thing that Ryan wanted to do was to let JD know that he had determined that JD is gay, à la gaydar. JD had no choice but to acknowledge the obviousness of the assessment. Next, for fun, Ryan wanted to establish whether or not JD was attracted to him. JD admitted that Ryan is a very attractive man, but that in ranking the order that he would like to get busy with the other three males house mates, JD ranked Ryan as third.
Ryan felt good about being called attractive even though even wasn't number one, and took the opportunity to tell a brief story about why he appreciates men admiring him. The first time it happened he was confused, but his platoon sergeant let him know that it was something to be considered very complimentary and so from that time forward it was all good.
With all the three dollar bills on the table, Ryan, Chet, and JD embraced. Ryan and Chet let JD go alone with Katelynn, allowing JD to follow his fantasy that Katelynn needed some sort of specialized psychoanalysis that only a person like JD the porpoise trainer could provide.
