While Ryan Conklin was in New York, he and his roommates from The Real World Brooklyn went to a performance of Fuerzabruta. The show is an immersive, multi-sensory experience that can be overwhelming to some. For small town Ryan it was amazing and awe inspiring. To demonstrate just how he amazed he was by it, Ryan would speak of it while doing one of his signature expressions: the incredulous rapid face shake followed by the dumbfounded jaw drop.
It's a classic Ryan Conklin routine, but pseudo sidekick Chet Cannon decided that he would try to appropriate it and pass it off as his own. Chet's repertoire of real Chet material consisted only of the sad and unnerving line said to women, "Can I get your number, can I get your number?" spoken with a pleading whimper.
Ryan was rightfully irritated by Chet's theft of his move as well as other original Ryan creative material, like his Aaron Neville impersonation.
Ryan confronted Chet about it, but since Ryan actually has a soft spot for Chet, he didn't come down too hard on him. Ryan only playfully bitch slapped him a few times, to show both his displeasure and underlying affection. Chet, in return, and with indifference, called Ryan "the biggest flamer I've ever met."
Perturbed, Ryan said that Chet was dumb, stupid, and uncreative. He reasoned that Chet was acting the way he was because Chet realized that he was, and only ever could be, second banana to Ryan. Ryan knew that he himself was the undisputed king of comedy in the house. Still he was glad to be in a comedy team with Chet, as every funny boy needs a straight man to play with.
